Nina Minnebo

Buddies 24.09 - 25.10

When does a pet become more than just a pet? Perhaps it happens quietly. Through thousands of small moments that accumulate over time: a familiar look, the sound of paws in the hallway, a body leaning against yours, a presence becoming part of the rhythm of everyday life.

In Buddies, Nina explores the particular intimacy between humans and animals. Dogs, cats and horses, animals that have been part of her life since childhood appear in familiar yet subtly shifted scenes. Bodies intertwine, overlap and disappear into one another. What feels familiar can suddenly become strange. What seems funny can be deeply tender at the same time.

At the heart of the exhibition is the relationship between humans and animals: between attachment and freedom, care and dependence, recognition and the understanding that we can never fully know one another.

Nina’s dog Gustave plays a special role in this story. He is not simply a pet, but a buddy. A companion who speaks another language, yet somehow shares a life with her.

Buddies is an exhibition about sharing your life with someone fundamentally different from you and somehow, along the way, becoming part of each other’s world.
